Greek Week Bolsters Community and Philanthropy

The Occidental Greek Council hosted this year's annual Greek Week on campus from Nov. 8 to Nov. 13, showcasing the spirit, community involvement and creativity of Oxy's eight Greek organizations. With four sororities and four fraternities, including co-ed Zeta Tau Zeta, each consisting of no more than 50 members, Greek life at Occidental involves around 13 percent of the student body.

U.S. House Passes Healthcare Reform

After 10 months of acrimonious debate, the House of Representatives passed a far-reaching health care reform bill on Nov. 7. The bill passed 220-215. Joseph Cao (LA) was the only Republican voting for it, while 39 Democrats voted against the bill.

Up 'til Dawn Fundraiser Supports St. Jude's

Close to 100 students filled the Cooler last Friday night to raise money and awareness for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital for Up 'til Dawn. Signaling the end of Greek Week, Up 'til Dawn was a great success both in contributing to a philanthropic cause and a fun social event. Students wrote letters to friends and family asking for donations and enjoyed music, games, karaoke, dancing and lots of free food until 1 a.m..

UEPI Panel Warns Against I-710 Expansion

In order to raise awareness of the proposed 710 Freeway tunnel, which could run near Oxy's campus, the Urban and Environmental Policy Insititute (UEPI) hosted a panel of community activists and experts last Thursday.

Expanded CDC Services Underutilized by Oxy Students

The Career Development Center (CDC) is stepping up its efforts to help graduating Occidental students cope with the harshest job market in decades. On top of increased programming, the CDC is attempting to revamp its image to attract and motivate students to utilize resources offered by the career counseling office.
