An hour before midnight on Saturday, Nov. 7, the energy in The Loft on York had reached a tipping point. Los Angeles hip-hop group Warm Brew had worked the crowd up with a spirited half-hour set, the audience had swelled to near sardine conditions and the room was abuzz with excitement. Then, on cue, the lights dropped, a strobe pulsed to life and DJ Sam Wilkes (sophomore) and guitarist Avery Henderson (sophomore) took to the stage to make their debut.

This past weekend the Eagle Rock Center for the Arts hosted the Monster Drawing Rally and gave Northeast L.A. artists a chance to showcase their work.

Fumiko Amano shook her head apologetically, looking down at her paint-splattered pants and sneakers, her eyes accented with pink eyeshadow to match her pink T-shirt. "I'm like, in another world," she said. After an hour of drawing for Outpost's fundraiser, the Monster Drawing Rally, she is still coming back to reality.
