Originally projected to return to Occidental in July, Dean of Students Kenyon Chan has opted instead to start anew at the University of Washington-Bothell (UWB), if given approval by the UW Board of Regents. Chan, who served as the interim college President for the 2005-2006 academic year, will begin a new career July 1 as the Chancellor of Bothell, the newest of three campuses within the University of Washington. Chan will be replacing Steven G. Olswang, who served as the UWB Chancellor since July 2005.… Post the First Comment

Last week Oxy students attended various events commemorating Holocaust Remembrance Week. Organized by Hillel, the week began with National Holocaust Remembrance Day on Monday, April 16 and included a series of events, including a documentary screening, a talk with a Holocaust survivor and a special Holocaust Memorial Service Thursday evening. Writer, activist and filmmaker Saul Landau visited campus Wednesday, April 18 for the screening of his documentary "We Don't Play Golf Here and Other Stories of Globalization." Writer, performer and community activist Luis Alfaro visited Oxy to make a presentation on a variety of his works of art Friday, April 20. Introduced by Professor Raul Villa as a "poet, playwright, genius and wino," Alfaro performed excerpts from his works that largely draw inspiration from growing up in Los Angeles.
