The ban of alcohol from Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and Ocean Beach kept things a little quieter this past Independence Day, as many San Diegans planned alternatives to lugging their kegs and beer-pong tables down to the beaches.
People hauled their barbecues and umbrellas to the shore, with one thing missing: alcohol.

When graduate student Antonio Castro wakes up in the morning, he sees his roommate. When he comes back from the shower, he sees his roommate. When he starts studying for his master's degree in Latin American Studies, again, he sees his roommate.
As a resident of one of San Diego State's student housing facilities, Castro said his living space is sometimes crowded.
